August inevitably heralds the end of summer, but there is no need to look so ominously at this beautiful month. Rather, read some poems inspired by August.
August still means summer in its prime, but still its aftermath. At this time, the children are already trying to mentally prepare themselves for the school that awaits them in September. Until then, enjoy the sunshine and everything that summer has to offer.
If you would also open your mind, then accept the poems of Mihály Babits and Árpád Tóth.
Mihály Babits: August
The tower of the village is slender,
around slender light trees
red-faced above the village,
yellow-whiskered moon.
I'm going far away on the train
far, far away quietly
and I wonder if it will be mine
or already lost my dear?
Who once, on a fine evening,
he leaned over me quietly,
will you still be mine my sweet
who was mine one night?
So far, into a low hum
do you think it would be good to come
where in response to each other
crickets would say a million.
My soul wanders here too,
I am mortified quietly,
and a white kitten rests
corn eaves. -
Oh my, the train starts
starts slowly, hesitates
and disappears over the hills of the landscape
music, moon and station.
Árpád Tóth: Under an August sky
Do you still remember the sky in August?
On fire? - on the ticker field
We stood, lost in the depths of your eyes
A twinkling light of a star twinkled... it was beautiful!
And I liked that the crescent moon was leaning towards us,
- A gentle, silver arm - and comes to hug me,
To lift softly, to swing above,
Where there is weight, the ether carries it easily...
And our sigh, the painful earthly sigh
It fell from our hearts like fine sand
It drips down from the floating balloons,
And I sealed your lips with such a long kiss,
That by then we have reached heaven, and angels
They laughed at us from the sky balconies...
