Cholesterol levels in postmenopausal women are rising, according to a study by more than 100,000 women at the Australian National University. Their research has found that postmenopausal women generally have above-recommended levels of LDL (low-density lipoprotein), according to the MedicalXpress health portal.
LDL assists in the transport of fat cells in the body and is often referred to as bad cholesterol. Further research is needed to understand what causes LDL, or bad cholesterol, to increase. The body needs HDL (high density lipoprotein), or good cholesterol, as well as LDL.
