Anyone who isn't present on a social media platform doesn't even exist. Well, of course this is a strong exaggeration, but today we use them quite generally.
Social media sites as well, but the internet in general has given us enormous opportunities. We can get information in seconds and even connect with others in the other part of the world. Our young people are born into it and experience a completely different childhood as a result, compared to when even the TV functioned almost as an ornament.
Thus, a generation is growing up for whom the use of the Internet, social networks, and smartphones becomes, one might say, instinctive. Since it is easy to get information with the help of technology, children and young people also want their important life stories to be seen by others. Moreover, they flood the world wide web with photos and information that seem important to them but are insignificant to others, because they don't want to miss anything and want to capture everything. They can choose from the memories accumulated in this way later.
What was before? We relied on our memory and looked at photos. Sometimes we saw ourselves or the events of that time in blurred, vague images. Today, we recall the same from the photos accumulated on our social media pages. We spend more time capturing moments than experiencing them. We have to focus on sharing the captured moments with others, so we glide over the magic of the moment. At the same time, today's young people like to show themselves in the given situation and they can do this with selfies, which they share with the world almost immediately. Then they wait to see how many likes each image receives. If others like the picture, they take more pictures, if they don't get enough likes, it's to keep attention awake. Social media makes people narcissistic without realizing it, and many people are not even aware of it. This is how dull, boring photos are created that fill the internet.
It's a shame to think that hunting for likes is only for young people. Everyone can be happy if others like a well-made photo, but under normal conditions, this is not what drives our lives. Well, those who have been hit by the "wind" of likes want to feel it as often as possible, so they take photos with themselves again. Few likes can also depress you, but so can if you cannot practice this activity for some reason. A like is a kind of reward and also gives you this pleasant feeling (if you get it). That is why a lack of likes or some technical limitation (power failure, dead phone, non-functioning social media site) can cause a big break for someone who has been sucked in by the vortex of the social media site.
