We are living in an era of closure due to the coronavirus, which requires a novel rhythm of life from us. Uncertainty changed our thinking and forced us to stay in our home.
We need to take care of each other’s health now, not to neglect our own. We panicked up our pantry, preparing for the situation that we really couldn’t leave our home at all. There is a partial curfew, according to which we can only leave our door in justified cases. We have read a lot about the fact that buying food other than flour and sugar is not stupid either. Not least because the opening hours of the stores are quite different from what it was before the virus. They set how long the shops could be open and which ages when to shop. There is a need for coordination and foresight.
This uncertainty and chaos creates tension in us. We need to fill our refrigerators and chambers with healthy food so that during this stressful period, even if we run away from eating, we do not stuff ourselves with unhealthy food. Stress eating can be an existing problem. Others reach for alcoholic beverages at home instead of eating. A plethora of memes talk about whether people become obese or become alcoholics after the end of quarantine.
It may even be funny, but unfortunately more people are really reaching for a glass in situations like this. Alcohol relaxes. Moreover, in alcohol we see the opportunity to reflect on our lives while drinking alone and waiting for great solutions to be found in our heads.
If we sip some alcohol with our couple, we trust the release of tension, the power of conversation. We really need to get rid of the tension, and if it happens sometimes in the company of a glass of wine, there’s no problem. An alcoholic beverage relieves tension, a person’s tongue can harden, and perhaps he can say things more honestly than without alcohol. But that's how it should be here. Not even on a daily basis, and even to a small extent. However, the problem begins when we see an improvement in mood only in alcohol.
If you’ve noticed in the lines you read above that you’ve been consuming more alcohol since you have to stay home, then something needs to be done. Learning together with the children, playing the roles of teacher, parent and subordinate at the same time, is not easy, but not the drink is the solution.
