It is a great joy when a baby arrives in the family, however, each season has its own characteristics and the baby should be dressed accordingly. But what does this mean in the summer, in the heat?
We've already had a small taste of the heat wave, and after a few cooler, rainier days, it's predicted to be around 35 degrees again. Anyone who has just had a baby (especially if it's their first) must be very protective of everything. You should not walk with your baby in winter because of the excessively cold air, and in summer because of the heat.
Protecting a newborn baby from heat is extremely important, as his little body is not yet able to effectively regulate body temperature. In the case of a newborn baby, what is the appropriate environment and clothing for in the heat? How can we alleviate the discomfort associated with heat?
Optimal temperature
Keep the baby's environment cool, at a temperature between 20-22 degrees Celsius. Avoid rooms that are too hot and use air conditioning or a fan when necessary.
Air flow
Ensure adequate air circulation in the baby's environment. Using open windows or fans can help bring in fresh air. However, make sure that the air flow does not directly hit the baby.
Light clothing
Dress them in light, breathable clothes. Choose clothes made of cotton, which help the body release heat and evaporate moisture.
Head-gear
Give the baby a light hat or scarf to protect its sensitive skin from the sun's rays.
Shielding
If you are outside, avoid direct sunlight. Use a parasol, a stroller with a mosquito net, or wear a carrier that provides shade for the baby. At the same time, we avoid long-term outdoor activities in the hot sun, especially in the midday hours, when it is the hottest.
Hydration
Make sure the baby is properly hydrated. Feeding with breast milk or formula not only reduces hunger, but also reduces fluid intake. Also, if we have already started feeding him, give him water, especially in hot weather.
Bathing
If the temperature is very high, make sure the baby gets frequent, mild, lukewarm baths to help cool the body.
