In its European Fresh Adventures campaign, the National Chamber of Agriculture has already drawn the attention of over one million people to healthy eating and the importance of eating vegetables and fruits.
At the end of the second year of the program, the Chamber's experts summarized the results achieved so far and the situation of the fruit and vegetable sector. The aim of the program is to reach parents and grandparents through children, said Katalin Süle, spokeswoman for the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) on the program "Hungarian Farmer M1".
I do not just want to encourage consumption
He said that not only do I want to encourage consumption, but also to make children conscious adults and consumers, and to make the positive effects of the results felt over the years.
Similarly to international trends, few people in Hungary consume vegetables and fruits regularly.
According to a WHO study, a body needs at least 400 grams of fruit and vegetables every day, says Katalin Süle.
However, the prescribed levels are not achieved in most of Europe, including Hungary. Families with young children have the lowest levels of consumption. He said NAK had joined the program to help with this, and the Chamber, along with Interfell, a French interprofessional organization, wants to successfully run this three-year project.
The goal of the program is for everyone to eat at least 40 decagrams of vegetables and fruits a day. At this year's event, the children could taste almost 2,600 kilograms of fruit and more than 700 kilograms of vegetables.
More and more people like fruits and vegetables
The big favorites of the program are tomatoes, peppers, and yellow and watermelons, said Béla Mártonffy, president of NAK's horticulture and supplier department. He added that, of course, all the other important fruits and vegetables can be found, and experience shows that more and more young people consume vegetables and fruits.
Domestic fruits are succulent, vegetables are delicious, not only healthy but also delicious and versatile. The program also called for parents to set a good example for their children, to cook together and to bake. The workshops are primarily about the ease with which these foods can be prepared, which, when incorporated into their daily lives, can do a great deal for the health of both parents and children.
Two masculine figures from the campaign "attended" family events in fifteen settlements. Katalin Süle said they went to sixty stores where they presented and tasted their products. They talked with parents and grandparents about the importance of constant consumption of fruits and vegetables in children's daily lives. He added that the campaign was already on television and that Frutti and Veggi's adventures could be followed on the fairytale channel.
New products are also appearing
Thanks to new consumer trends and consumer-friendly technological advances, we can now put fresh vegetables and fruits on the table all year long. Product development is fast paced around the world. New, innovative ideas in processing have emerged, such as beetroot chips, which are gaining popularity, but also require creative and healthy solutions.
The main objective of the sector in the next period is to increase irrigation areas in agriculture, in addition to developing environmentally and consumer friendly technology, in order to increase competitiveness.
