On November 17, World Symbolic Day for Newborns, a symbolic building in Hungary will be lit with purple light to draw attention to premature babies and premature babies for years. In Hungary every tenth baby is born prematurely. Babies born after the 25th week of pregnancy have a 50 percent chance of survival. The kangaroo method also helps healthy survival.
Premature birth is not a disease, but a condition, ”said conductor Ildikó Bajnok, a motion therapist on Kossuth Radio during the day. She added that babies born before the 37th week of pregnancy are considered premature babies.
Healthy survival of preterm infants is low
Csaba Nádor, chief neonatologist at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Semmelweis University, pointed out that in Hungary babies born after the 25th week of pregnancy have a 50 percent chance of survival, but healthy survival is much lower, only ten to twenty percent. He added that healthy survival meant that the baby did not suffer any sensory or long-term damage to the nervous system.
For a healthy survival, it is important for doctors to focus not only on the breathing and heart rate of the newborn baby, but also on minimizing the harmful, painful impact on the baby and making physical contact with her parents as often as possible. As a result, the kangaroo method is becoming more widespread, during which the premature infant may have skin-to-skin contact with his parents - said Csaba Nádor. He added that the success of the method is also demonstrated by the fact that newborns feel better outside the incubator while resting on the chest of their mother or father.
Csaba Nádor emphasized that the use of the incubator is currently essential for the survival of the babies, as it provides the right temperature and humidity for the heat and fluid balance of premature babies to function properly. He pointed out that more and more people are trying to create an artificial bee, because the artificial bee could provide premature babies with natural conditions and save them from a lot of harmful, painful effects. Of course, an infection-free environment is essential for healthy survival.
Newborn babies are sensitive to sounds and smells
The chief physician said that ideally, a baby should be supervised by a nurse so they could receive more attention. He added that, unfortunately, very few newborn classes in Hungary can afford it yet. Nurses lose a lot of time with hand disinfection because disinfection lasts for at least thirty seconds and then they have to wait for the disinfectant to fully absorb, the disinfectant dries on their hands as newborns are extremely sensitive to odors and the odor of disinfectant can cause nerve damage.
The chief doctor emphasized that babies are very sensitive not only to smells but also to sounds, especially in the incubator. In a premature infant intensive care unit, sounds may not exceed fifty decibels. By comparison, a man speaks eighty decibels on average, which can also cause long-term damage to the nervous system of a baby in an incubator.
Premature delivery is almost taboo
Although the problem of premature birth affects thousands of families every year, this topic is still almost taboo in Hungary. In many cases, mothers of premature babies cannot hug their children for weeks or even months, while many blame themselves for what has happened and even often are labeled and left behind. And, in rare cases, information is given about what it is like to have premature birth, how to prepare for it. You should. Information, prevention and appropriate care could significantly reduce the number of preterm infants.
She emphasizes the importance of orientation and preparation through her year-long work and through the programs of November 16-17, the NaturAqua National Association for Pregnancy and NaturAqua, which promotes the association.
“ Our goal is for people to dare to talk about preterm birth. And for traumatic families, we recommend development methods, professionals, institutions to know what to expect and be able to trust in their future, with their small child, and that they will all be able to live their full lives within their means, ”Földvári- Zsuzsanna Nagy, President of the National Association for Preterm Births.
