33% of Europeans and 38% of Hungarians know people who work in black, compared to 3% at EU level.
In Hungary, the proportion of those who have performed an undeclared paid activity in the last 12 months is 4 percent, according to a survey by the European Commission on the phenomenon of undeclared work.
According to the committee's communication, one of the most common cases of undeclared work is when a trader or service provider does not invoice for the work done.
One tenth of those surveyed said they had paid for a service without an invoice last year, compared to 15 percent in Hungary.
Based on the responses, repair and renovation work around the house is the number one service provided in black. This was stated by 30% of respondents in the EU as a whole and by 33% in Hungary.
In second place are hairdressing and beauty treatments at EU level with 27 percent and in Hungary with 48 percent.
At EU level, 19 per cent of respondents, while in Hungary 30 per cent, said that they had experienced black work in repairing cars, mobile phones and other items.
It was also noted that during the purchase of food, 16 percent of EU respondents and 40 percent of Hungarian respondents encountered not receiving an invoice for the product.
The European Commission has also reported that it has launched a campaign to eradicate undeclared work and undeclared work.
The initiative aims to draw the attention of workers, businesses and policy makers to the fact that undeclared work deprives workers of social protection, distorts competition between companies and causes huge losses to public finances.
