The 10 richest people in the world have more than doubled their wealth since the pandemic began, the online release of The Guardian said Monday.
According to a report by the charity Oxfam, the wealth of the 10 richest people rose to $ 1,500 billion (HUF 476,000 billion) due to soaring stock and real estate prices, further widening the gap between rich and poor. According to the World Bank, 163 million more people have been pushed below the poverty line since the start of the pandemic, while the super-rich have benefited from government stimulus subsidies to offset the effects of the pandemic.
Oxfam wrote in its report that between March 2020 and October 2021, the income of 99 percent of the world’s population fell, while Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, and the other nine super-richs together became $ 1.3 billion richer each day.
List leader Musk’s current fortune, according to Forbes magazine’s rich list, is $ 294.2 billion, tenfold since the outbreak began. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, second on the list, increased his wealth by 67 percent to 202.6 billion. Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg has doubled to 118 billion, and Microsoft's Bill Gates has grown 31 percent to about 137 billion.
