The role of sport in the business success of women leaders is paramount, according to research by the University of Physical Education, the Equator Foundation and EY, the University of Physical Education (TE) told MTI on Monday.
It was made by interviewing 232 Hungarian decision-makers. According to the respondents, sport develops a number of personality traits and qualities in women that are important both as employees and leaders. In addition, about two-thirds of respondents believe that a competitive past can be an advantage when applying for a new job, the communication said.
As they write, 84 percent of decision-makers in the research played sports at a young age (7 percent as a national team, 33 percent as a competitive or first-class athlete, 44 percent as a recreational athlete) and almost all of them (91 percent) still have regular physical activity. Every second female leader moves at least three times a week or more, with running and yoga proving to be the most popular.
Among the positive benefits of physical activity, respondents consider health preservation and its stress-relieving effect to be the most important.
The study highlights that exercise can have a beneficial effect on progression throughout a woman’s career. Two-thirds of respondents say women also benefit from a competitive athlete background when applying for a new job because it assumes willpower, team spirit, and discipline about the applicant.
56 percent of respondents have been working in leadership positions for more than 10 years, covering more than 20 different sectors, and 78 percent representing the 40-59 age group, the summary says.
