After the job interview comes the most nerve-wracking part of the job search process: waiting for feedback. In many cases, however, the candidate waits in vain, the companies - for lack of capacity or other reasons - but do not apply anymore. This phenomenon goes beyond the fact that the candidate is disappointed to note that they may not have been chosen - it could have serious consequences for the company’s reputation in the long run.
In Hungary, "companies do not yet take feedback seriously enough for everyone. They may not yet see the long-term negative effects of this," says Vivien Andavölgyi, recruitment expert at Profession.hu.
What is the problem?
Hungary's largest job search site, Profession.hu, regularly measures the satisfaction of its users. As part of this, 15 percent of employees who gave a text comment spontaneously mentioned that they had a negative experience of looking for a job because they did not receive feedback on their application. Considering that these users have raised the topic without a specific question to this effect, we can say with strong confidence that the range of stakeholders may be much larger than this.
"Nowadays, a job seeker typically not only applies for one advertised position, but also for several opportunities. Therefore, companies with a well-established feedback system have a competitive advantage in the fight for the best professionals, because due to the slowness and lack of feedback, applicants can easily choose another option. In addition, applicants will certainly not recommend such a company to their acquaintances with a good heart, "explains the recruitment expert.
Why is the feedback missing?
Most companies usually explain why they do not notify unsuccessful applicants due to a lack of capacity or processes designed to provide feedback. "But it often happens that companies only give feedback to those who have not made it further after the recruitment process has been completed, after the new employee has taken up employment. This can take up to two or three months," says Eszter Somogyi-Vass, Profession. .hu is an expert in the ATS system, which facilitates the selection process and company feedback.
Currently, three-quarters of companies advertising on the job portal (which means more than 24,000 companies) use the ATS system, which makes it easier to track applicants, send a message to applicants, and share the current status of the selection process with them. The number of messages sent here has tripled compared to last year - but that still averages only a quarter of the companies advertising that month. The status of the selection process was also shared by 25 percent of the advertising companies with their applicants.
An average of 16.5 percent of applicants for job postings from companies using the ATS system received any feedback on their application this year. This is a significant increase compared to 4.3 percent in 2018, which is partly due to the fact that Profession.hu automatically made the use of the ATS system available to companies.
Experience to date has shown that the system is mostly used by companies for administrative, physical, auxiliary and trained work, administrative, agricultural, educational and professional job advertisements. In contrast, the use of ATS is least typical for banking, insurance, broker (5 percent of ads), and business support center ads (7 percent).
It is important that applicants leave with a good experience
"An essential part of a well-structured recruitment strategy is for applicants who come into contact with the company, whether they have been hired or not, to leave with the best possible experience. it is the most authentic and authentic way to build an employer's brand if, in fact, 'outsiders' strengthen the company's perception, ”says Vivien Andavölgyi.
