Autumn is the ideal time to transplant flowers in the garden. At this point, the temperature is still warm enough for the plants to take root in their new location, but there are no longer any hot summer days that can stress the plants.
If you have never transplanted a plant before, but you see it as timely, then this is how you should start.
Transplanting houseplants is an important task in plant care, as we help the plants to develop roots and thereby access nutrients.
Choose the right time: it is usually advisable to transplant in spring or early summer. This period allows the plants to get stronger in the new pot until the start of the growing season. The best time to transplant in the fall is when the temperature is still warm, but there are no frosts. The exact time depends on the climate of the place where you live, but for us usually from the end of September to the middle of October is ideal.
Choose a suitable pot: The chosen pot must be at least a little larger in diameter than the previous one. It should have drainage holes in the bottom to avoid root rot.
Choose the right soil: use high-quality potting soil that meets the needs of the plant variety. General potting soil is not suitable for all plants, so be careful.
Prepare the plant: carefully remove the plant from the previous pot. If the roots have grown too strong and are intertwined, gently loosen them with your fingers or a small rake. You can easily remove the dead roots.
Place in the new pot: put the plant in the new pot and fill it with fresh potting soil. Make sure there is enough space between the plant's roots and the edge of the pot. Press the new soil slightly around the plant, because watering will cause the soil to settle.
Water properly: after planting, water the plant thoroughly after transplanting, because in this way you help the roots to develop and thus be able to keep the plant.
Take care of the plant: pay a little more attention to transplanted plants in the first few weeks. It takes time to adapt to a new environment.
Transplanted houseplants will generally appreciate the new pot and fresh soil and will grow and flower better. However, it is important to handle them with care when transplanting and not stress the plants too much.
