Renovation and painting are usually scheduled for the spring-summer season, but what happens if we need to renovate in the winter because of buying a home, moving or other urgent business?
The good news is that we do not have to despair of a winter refurbishment, we can work with caution in cold weather permanently and beautifully, but we have to count on the slower progress of the work and the heavier bill. Podmaniczki "Szobafestő" Attila Poli-Farbe asked the application technician to pay attention to when we are forced to carry out minor or major renovations in the harsh months ahead:
1. Appropriate temperature
One of the most important things to keep in mind is the temperature! When it is always cold, the walls of the empty property are cold, and for wall painting, depending on the type of paint, we have to provide a temperature of about 20-30 degrees inside the apartment - emphasized Attala Podmaniczki , Poli-Farbe application technician. Of course, it is irrelevant whether it is a family house or a condominium that is surrounded by neighbors. For each situation, it is equally true that the cold walls should be prepared, so that one to one and a half months before painting, intensive heating should be started so that not only the air is heated. Avoid using heaters because they produce water, and then our troubles will overwhelm our water. It certainly helps to measure the temperature continuously at several points of the apartment, so we hang it on the chandelier, or in the middle of the rooms we can hang up a thermometer or install it on the wall, which measures the temperature directly - so we can measure when we are ready to start work. It is also worth looking at long-term weather forecasts: when it is expected to cool down or relax, it is worth planning our tasks in this light.
2. Calculate longer drying times
During drying, we can be a serious enemy of the mist, so ventilate a lot, 15-20 minutes per hour, but keep in mind the current weather! If there is rainy, wet weather, it takes 2 minutes every half hour to keep the doors open, the vapor does not leave, but rather comes into the apartment. Ventilation and drying can be accelerated with fans, these are almost essential.
3. Quality materials and careful storage
It is also worthwhile to choose a high-quality one-layer coat and quick-drying paint, for example, the products of the Poli-Farbe Platinum family, saving you a lot of time. The drying time is also increased in winter, and the dyeing interval of 2-3 hours is usually doubled so that the applied materials can be properly bonded. Fortunately, the gletto binding time is the same in winter and summer, but pay attention to the instructions for using the materials. Beyond 40-60 minutes of open time, don't use the flipper because you can bring it back, so it won't bind properly. Let's not forget about the deep foundation before painting, with this step it is not worth saving time, let's count on this workflow.
During the work, and after the work, make sure that the indoor paints and dispersion materials are stored in a cool place protected from light, paying special attention to avoid temperatures below 5 degrees, otherwise the binder will be destroyed and the paint will drip off. following.
4. Take care of the furniture!
It is also important not to push the cabinets or larger furniture onto the freshly painted wall until spring, if possible, leave a distance of 15-20 cm to avoid fungus. It is important that deeper layers can be vented, otherwise we can easily find ourselves with mold spots that are more difficult to repair later.
We see, therefore, if we see him in winter, it is not impossible to beautify our home, but we accept the expert's advice not to be annoyed later.
