The holiday should be about rest, relaxation, experiences, sights, not worries. But if we spend more days away, we also need to think about our pets and plants.
When it comes to an absence of only 2-3 days, neither the people living in the garden nor the houseplants feel our absence even during the heat. Or at least it suffers less. Pets cannot be left alone for more than a day, so care must be taken in their case.
For pets
More and more accommodations are offering to bring visitors a small pet there. If our dog or cat is used to traveling, sleeping in a foreign place is not a problem for him and we have the opportunity to do so, we can even take our pet with us on vacation. Of course, this can also lead to resignation. In addition to being with our dog or cat, it also means that we cannot come to certain places with animals, we cannot visit them. While it’s good that your care is solved this way, it can make it a little harder, to modify our dream of a vacation.
If it is out of the question to pull your pet out of your usual environment and imagine a holiday with an animal, then before the trip you have to look for someone who will take care of our pet's daily care, even a walk. A close family member, friend or trusted neighbor may come into play.
A holiday is not lost even if we can’t trust our pet. Dog or cat boarding is also an option, although it is undoubtedly the most costly option.
For plants
The plants do not notice our absence for a few days and are not in trouble, however, if we spend a longer time away from our home, it is necessary to take care of their watering.
If we haven’t paid much attention to the names and needs of our plants so far, but have instinctively cared for them well, it’s worth paying a little more attention to this before the holidays. Knowing what we are dealing with can also make it easier to keep them. Among the plants there are drought-tolerant and more water-demanding plants, i.e. their keeping is not the same. In the case of plants planted in small pots, the degree of dehydration may be greater, if our vacation lasts longer than a week, the help of a family member, friend, neighbor may now come in handy again. Otherwise, these plants would dry out and die. For more water-intensive plants, be sure to put it in a pot because if we fill it with water, it will last longer and you may not even need help. It’s also important to have your last watering right before your trip so you can go for up to a week without having to worry. For both outdoor and houseplants, make sure to put them in a more shady place before traveling. Which houseplant was in the window will be moved elsewhere before the holiday.
