On November 12th, the Long Road Equal Opportunity Documentary was premiered on the lives of Janka Tanya staff. The purpose of the nonprofit is to provide employment for people with autism and mental disabilities, thereby helping them to integrate into society. (X)
Everyone is as important as a king or princess, says Janneke Brinks, one of the farm's founders and educators, and in fact summarizes Janka Tanya's philosophy. The film about the life of a NGO in Tótvázsony is no accident: it is an inspiring work for all of us.
At the grassroots level, many people are still embarrassed when they encounter an autistic person or other person with a mental disability - so it is important to get to know them better. By learning about their lives and their habits, we can tune in to their thoughts and feelings, and together we can create a more accepting relationship where everyone has their place, their role and their joy. This is exactly what Janka Tanya is trying to do: it improves its defenses through practical situations to help them integrate into society.
It does not focus on disability, but on abilities, says Kati Bárányos, another founder who has also been present in the farm from the start. And what happens when we focus on abilities? Smaller miracle! The inhabitants work in the garden, plant, and grow vegetables. If they do, they leave the farm and mow lawns, rebuild benches, polish stairs, keep the playgrounds tidy, or even make crafts. In a word, they do all the things that make them feel better and benefit society.
The last step in employment, and also the biggest challenge, is the ability of residents to enter the open labor market. Janka Tanya participates in this SPAR, where residents perform smaller or larger tasks on a weekly basis, supervised by a teacher, in the INTERSPAR store in Veszprém: sorting bottles, folding bags, arranging compartments and cleaning and filling shelves in the reception area. .
Long Road introduces this exciting, heart-wrenching path far from obstacles - as well as working together and making the film, supported by SPAR Hungary Commercial Ltd.
SPAR currently employs 119 people with disabilities and employs ten young people with disabilities with autism.
For the first time, SPAR was awarded the Disability Friendly Workplace Award in 2010, and for the fourth time in 2017, it received the Special Incentive Award at the Equal Opportunity Competition in recognition of its Janka Tanya program. The SPAR team prides itself on providing equal opportunities to its patrons through equal opportunities initiatives, and is grateful for their above-average loyalty, exemplary perseverance, and diligence.
