Autumn is here with all its charm and ugliness. During the rainy and cold season, we tend to feel the worst part and even have to deal with colds and the common cold.
Illnesses come and go during this period, and perhaps only a stuffy nose can be worse than an unpleasant runny nose. Especially if the night comes and there is no nasal drops or spary at home.
Preventing nasal congestion smartly
Inhaling and taking a hot shower can help relieve nasal congestion, because the warm steam dissolves the mucus and the nasal passage can be opened.
Nasal irrigation with sea salt can help clear nasal passages and relieve nasal congestion.
When we are sick or have unpleasant symptoms, our demand for hot drinks is greater anyway. Even nasal congestion can be relieved by a delicious tea with honey, because the warm steam rising from it thins the mucus and the passage can be free for air again.
Adding some herbal essential oils (eucalyptus, peppermint) to the humidifier can do a good job in making breathing easier. You only need a few drops of these in hot water and you are ready to inhale.
If you don't have essential oil at home, you can put salt in the water and inhale it that way.
Heated salt is not only good for a sore ear, but when applied to the face, it can also help clear nasal congestion.
If the degree of nasal congestion is minor, but still disturbs restful sleep, it may be enough to raise your head with pillows and with a good rest, you may even be able to overcome the disease.
In case of nasal congestion, some simple breathing techniques and facial exercises can also help. For example, sit comfortably or lie on your back. Breathe slowly and deeply through the nose, then slowly out. In circular motions, massage the area next to the nose, the face as well, and don't miss the forehead either. With this, we can also help the stuck mucus to move.
There is nothing worse than not being able to rest well because of a stuffy nose. If none of the above methods help to clear the blockage, an over-the-counter nasal drop or spray can relieve the discomfort. However, it is important to use it in the manner and for the time indicated, because long-term use can damage the health of the nasal mucosa.
