Wine lovers have been reluctant to screw-locked wines for a few years, but they have become accustomed to, and even loved, this bottle-closing technique over time. According to Dr. Podmaniczky Péter, the head of the Bognár Winery, more and more premium and top-quality wines feature a screw-lock solution that has many advantages.
The biggest positive is the practicality, because it is much easier to open and close the wines, and in addition, the bottled and closed bottles can be placed in the fridge with great certainty. Like the plastic plug, we don't have to keep the TCA infection here either.
In addition, the screw-locked solution also contributes to the preservation of the primary fruity aromas, as the Sarantin insert provides little oxygen to the wine. The other very common type of insert, the Saranex insert, has an oxygen permeability similar to that of a high quality natural cork, so it can perfectly ripen red wines. Thanks to this, the winemakers not only close the fresh, fruity white and rosé wines with the screw-closed method, but also the premium and even the super premium red wines. However, the shelf life is not affected by the screw lock disassembly: it remains fresh for the same amount of time as other closed companions.
Nowadays the screw-lock solution is not the only common practice in Australia, Germany and the United States, but in Hungary it was also possible to dispel the misconception that only corked wines can be considered elegant. In addition, screw-locked wines are not only accepted, but also highly sought after, with the addition of simple handling and practicality, high quality.
