In all categories, Hungarian universities are ahead of the previous year in the ranking of the British Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), which evaluates 1,543 higher education institutions in the world in five broad disciplines, including 51 disciplines, according to the institutions' publications.
In the ranking of 2022, the Eötvös Loránd University (Eötvös Loránd University) is among the five broadest disciplines in the humanities, moving from 377th place to 351st place last year. In the field of engineering and technology, the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) is advancing from 273 last year, jumping to more than sixty places, to 211.
In the field of life sciences and medicine, the University of Semmelweis (SE), with ten positions, reached the 262nd place, the University of Debrecen (DE) with 401-450, as in the previous year. as well as the University of Szeged, which improved it by fifty places compared to 2021.
In the lifeless sciences, ELTE jumped to 287th place from 309 last year, BME 401-450 from 451-500 in 2021, while DE was among the top 500 institutions. In the social sciences, Corvinus University of Budapest (BCE) was ranked 338th, while last year it was ranked 401-450, and ELTE was ranked 383rd from 451-500.
ELTE is ranked in 13 of the 51 narrower fields, with the best results in linguistics, along with other institutions. SE was also tied for 101st place in anatomy and physiology. In the field of agricultural sciences, the 201-250. the University of Debrecen and Szent István University were ranked. BME also specializes in civil engineering and structural engineering, as well as mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering and production technology engineering. occupies a place in the list, in the latter category the University of Miskolc is ranked 401-450. ranked. In the field of biological sciences, SZTE, ELTE and DE also ranked 451st on the list.
The list of QS specializations is compiled based on five indicators. The first two of these are based on the organization's own surveys, which examine the reputation and recognition of institutions among researchers and employers around the world. The third indicator measures the citation index of scientific publications, and the fourth indicator measures the Hirsch index, which evaluates citation and the number of highly reputable articles together. The fifth indicator examines the institution's international research collaborations. The QS takes into account the five indicators with different weightings for each field, but the indicator of international relations is used only in the evaluation of the five broader disciplines.
