Our nose is an important sense organ. Just think, what would a delicious fragrance be if you couldn't smell it?
Those who caught the coronavirus could feel the loss of smell and the fact that it even made the experience of eating a lot worse. In fact, one does not feel like eating like this. It is clear that scents have a great influence on us. Who doesn't like pleasant scents, but it's also an individual judgment as to what is good for whom. We take it for granted that this ability is a given and we don't even think about its importance until we lose it for some reason.
We only know how important our sense of smell is when we lose it. Two scientists also found that if we don't feel scents or smells well enough, it affects our quality of life. As we age, more and more health problems appear. Over time, the sense of smell can also wear off. Although this condition may not seem serious, if it is not perfect, we are exposed to things like:
We already know how bad it is if we can't smell and smell. This is where technology comes into play, as we can already foresee great innovation in the sense of smell. A company is already working on how it would be possible to digitize scents. In fact, I want to do all this in such a way that it even helps humanity.
The company Osmo teaches computers to smell. In other words, it forms a database from the components of various fragrances, on the basis of which each component of a fragrance can be determined from the molecules it contains. In addition, the computer is not only able to recognize molecules, but it is constantly learning, as the database grows with new patterns that are characteristic of each fragrance. The expansion of the database and the learning of the computer can help us to recognize new molecules and create ones that break down in nature, that is, environmentally friendly.
A computerized sense of smell cannot improve a person's impaired sense of smell, but this innovation can give us a lot of momentum.
