Mobile couture: a collection of clothes designed and manufactured exclusively by mobile phone

In collaboration with Samsung, Aurélie used only the Galaxy Note9 to complete the Mobile Couture collection in seven major steps.

Thanks to the Galaxy Note9 S Pen's pen, it was able to sketch its designs accurately, while thanks to its high performance, storage space and unrestricted access to technological equipment, you can edit the materials in real time, accelerate and renew the individual phases of the design and final production - all in one, device in your pocket. Just one of the most striking figures: Aurelie's innovative use of the Galaxy Note9 accelerated the phases of prototyping by 40 percent.

The role of the Galaxy Note9

Inspiration from first hand

• Aurélie captured the ideas and moments she had inspired her digital sketchbook with the iconic S Pen and the phone camera.
• With a single charge up to 24 hours and a huge storage space, Aurélie could work even when he was on the road.

Sketches, patterns and fixings

• The shape of the dress, the fabric samples and the hooks for fastening Aurelie made it so light with the fine-pointed S Pennel as if she was using a pencil on paper, but this time, the Note9's huge 6.4-inch display served as a sketchbook.

Manufacture of 3D printed plastic fasteners

• The more sophisticated fixings have been rebuilt in the application called OnShape * based on the drawings, so digital designs were already suitable for 3D printing.
• These files were transferred directly from the phone to the Ultimaker 3D printer. A computer was previously needed for this process.
• The process of 3D printing was traceable on the phone, so Aurélie could change the plans at any time if needed.

Painting samples remotely, wirelessly

• The patterns were routed wirelessly to Joto X, an advanced digital robot drawing tool that replicated the complex pattern on the leather fabric.

The final look

• The patterned leather materials are fitted with 3D printed stitches to give the dress its final shape.
• Then the digital catalog was compiled. To do this, Aurélie used the Bluetooth-enabled S-Pen pen to take photos without having to touch the phone. That way, you always had a free hand to do the finishing touches so you can make perfectly set photos.
• To make photography even easier, the Note9's intelligent camera drew attention to possible problems before taking a picture using the 'Error Detector' features.

" My creativity is greatly inspired by the potential of science and technology, so I found it very exciting to have a smartphone that has the potential to design and implement a complete collection, " said Aurelie Fontan. I always had ambitious ideas that stretched the boundaries of traditional fashion industry solutions. As a young designer, it was a liberating feeling to see how my ideas come to life with a single tool that I can always keep with myself . ”

The Mobile Couture Collection's pieces bring the progressive design to the forefront, providing a thoughtful alternative to the fast fashion business model and making the most of digital and mobile technology. The clothes were made of recyclable leather with biodegradable 3D plastic fasteners, and the design and production process took six weeks.
