An ecotourism visitor center presenting the industrial history and natural values of the settlement and its surroundings has been completed with an investment of HUF 290 million, the local government informed MTI.
According to the information of the town hall, the five halls of the exhibition space created in the building will display cement production, stone carving and paper production, as well as the Danube and the Gerecse Mountains. In addition to traditional tools, the exhibitions were equipped with innovative and interactive elements.
There is also a lecture hall for screenings, trainings and workshops, and a bicycle shop and service is available for cycling tourists passing through the city.
The investment was implemented using a non-refundable EU subsidy of HUF 275 million and HUF 15 million of local government own resources.
The tourist center is open 290 days a year and is open during the high season. In the vicinity of the visitor center, in the Gerenday Garden, a study trail was created to present the natural values and flora of the region.
The building, which houses the Dunamente Ecotourism Visitor Center and is located in the center of the village, was formerly a post office station, later the stonemason's workshop of the Gerenday family, and then apartments were built in it.
The house in poor condition was bought in 1999 by the municipality of Lábatlan.
