In the frames of natural science documentaries and travel-related broadcasts, a mountain road is often seen that almost only goats can travel on. In comparison, even buses use it.
It's a blood-curdling sight to watch even on television, those winding mountain roads that don't have asphalt covering, stretch at huge heights and don't even have a barrier to protect those who pass through them.
There are several roads all over the world that we would not be happy to walk along, let alone in some kind of vehicle. Nevertheless, in many cases they are in daily use in order to shorten the road or to approach a settlement. This means that there are people who risk their lives every day just by walking down a road.
China is a vast country surrounded by huge mountains. Some settlements were isolated from everything, because there was not even an artificial road accessible by vehicles. Today, apart from the stairs, you can even get to the village of Kuoliang by car. The government did not invest serious money in the access to the settlement with only a few hundred inhabitants, so the locals got together and dug a tunnel into the rock and shaped it for years in order to make it passable to anyone. If you watch the video, the tunnel is a terrifying sight even in the rain and humid air, but would it be better to see the terrifying depth?
The Himalayas are the highest mountains on Earth. And the Zoji La pass is located here. The unpaved road located at an altitude of more than 3,000 meters is important in terms of accessibility between the two provinces. The road, which also has no limits, looks terrifying even with a bicycle and in sunny weather, not to mention a truck in judgment time.
You don't have to walk the serpentines of high mountains to have the fear of death. The James Dalton Highway in Alaska is famous for running to the northernmost point of Alaska and ending in front of the Arctic Ocean. Part of the road is paved, but there are sections where you have to drive on a dirt road. In addition, you have to prepare for each trip in such a way that there are no gas stations or rest areas for hundreds of kilometers, and we can't even rely on the field force if we need help.
